Position Summary
We are seeking a Cloud & Platform Architect – Regulated MedTech Systems to lead the design of a scalable and compliant cloud-native platform supporting medical device software (MDSW). The role focuses on building and evolving production-grade platforms for automated medical software workflows, including data pipelines, AI-driven systems, and regulated execution environments. You will join an extremely motivated team committed to performing high-impact work in the precision medicine field. You will collaborate closely with engineering, data science, product development, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure that platform design supports IVDR requirements while enabling scalability and modularity across multiple assays.
The ideal candidate is a strong cloud/platform architect with experience building scalable systems in regulated or high-compliance environments. EU citizens will be requested a registration certificate in Spain. Non-EU residents must hold a valid residence and work permit. Additionally, all applicants must possess educational qualifications that are accredited or recognized by the Ministry of Education to ensure compliance with the standard educational requirements for the role.
Key responsibilities
- Platform Architecture & Engineering: Design scalable, secure, and compliant cloud-native platforms supporting medical device software (MDSW), automated data pipelines, and AI-driven workflows in production environments, ensuring alignment with MedTech regulatory and quality requirements (e.g., FDA, IVDR, IEC 62304).
- Secure Development & Cloud Security: Integrate security and privacy-by-design principles into cloud-native platforms and development workflows, including IAM,encryption, vulnerability management, security testing, and auditability mechanisms for regulated production environments.
- Data & Execution Environment Management: Design controlled execution environments and data management systems ensuring integrity, traceability, access control, and efficient querying of clinical and operational data across platform components.
- Automation & CI/CD Pipelines (DevOps): Lead the automation of deployment, scaling, and management processes by implementing CI/CD pipelines in a regulated environment.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, quality and regulatory teams to align platform architecture with business and compliance requirements.
- Documentation & Validation Support: Develop and maintain technical documentation supporting software lifecycle activities, risk management, validation/verification, and regulatory audits.
- Innovative Technologies: Stay updated with emerging cloud technologies, AI/ML advancements, and regulatory updates, proactively recommending new tools, frameworks, and best practices.
- Reliability, Observability & Availability: Design and operate highly available and resilient systems, ensuring critical services meet defined uptime, monitoring, traceability, and operational reliability requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture (AWS), preferably in MedTech or regulated industries.
- Strong background in developing enterprise grade solutions, preferably for regulated industries.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience in implementing security frameworks like CSF 2.0 by NIST.
- Experience in Docker and containerization.
- Experience designing and operating systems with high availability requirements (e.g., 99.9%+ uptime or similar.
- Technical skills:
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS), with strong experience with AWS services including ECS, EC2, Batch, Lambda, S3, RDS and related services used to build scalable data processing systems.
- Experience with SQL databases management systems, ensuring data is secure, traceable, and efficiently queryable.
- Proven experience of cloud security, identity and access management (IAM), encryption and secure access control practices.
- Experience with cloud security practices, including vulnerability assessments, security testing, and exposure to penetration testing methodologies. Experience with prevention, detection and monitoring solutions (IDS/IPS/SIEM).
- Experience with defining and implementing business continuity plans (backup / disaster recovery)
- Experience with AWS account management for cost efficiency (FinOps for cloud.
- Soft skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Certifications as AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Experience with Medtech, Healthcare or other regulated industry development processes (e.g. FDA regulations, IVDR, ISO 13485, ISO 62304).
- Experience with Python, proven ability to automate tasks, jobs.
